I am a traveler and I have stayed in many great hostels around the world. I am thankful my work allows me to work from anywhere in the world, which leads me to be especially particular about which hostels I choose. Hostels become a home base when I'm on the road. The Hostel fits into my experience of a five-star journey no matter where I am. I choose the Big Island Hostel because I had to go a long way before I could find a Hostel experience that felt like home. Thank you Big Island Hostel!

I had the most amazing experience here. On top of making memorable friends with other guests, the staff (Dutch and Adam) were the most welcoming hosts I’ve experienced.

The doors have security codes and the beds, showers and kitchen were very clean.

5 stars to these guys. Thank you for hosting me and making my Hilo trip memorable.

Clean Clean Clean!

First of all homy at the desk is cool, sweet helpful also deep appreciation for how clean space was and the fresh linens which we don’t get at any other hostel.. definitely will be back.

The Big Island Hostel

I highly recommend this Hostel.

Indeed, I have made many trips to Hostel and it stands out from the rest.

First of all, Dutch, the owner is really welcoming, helping, reassuring and attentive to his visitors.

He helped me a lot during my trip when I wanted to go on excursions.

Then, it’s the first time I’ve seen such a clean Hostel, cleaning is done every day, as much for the bathrooms, the kitchen or the floor, the bath rugs are changed every day.

Then the environment is really pleasant, the comfortable beds of the rooms are arranged in an original way and no problem of squeaks when we turn around because the structures are made of wood.

In addition, there is air conditioning in all rooms. You can choose between a mixed room or a woman only room if you wish.

There is a room to talk to other travelers, read or relax.

The wifi is really efficient everywhere in the hostel.

Finally, the hostel is located in downtown Hilo so everything is nearby, bus, grocery store, restaurants or beach.

Amazing and Clean!

I had only heard horror stories about staying at a Hostel and I have to say... those stories do NOT apply to this place! This place is cleaner than high end resorts I have stayed at. The people are so friendly and the common area is far far far better than hanging out at some bar! I went on local tours with other people staying here and just had a GREAT time! The hostel is super close to Downtown Hilo and did I mention the price? It's unbelievable! I upgraded to the Lani Suite which is a private suite with it's own balcony and a view of Mauna Kaya! I give this place my highest recommendation!
